About

As a young, middle-class Australian student I feel that it is my duty to make sure that as many people as possible know exactly what I am doing at all times.

No, seriously. Sharing is caring, people. I have kept travel journals in the past, however those pages upon pages of writing sullied with road dust and emotional breakdowns can get a little bit lost in the bookshelf.

This is where blogging comes in.

My biggest adventure to date, a solo exchange trip to China, will be the starting point for my illustrious writing career. China is a remarkable country, one that can leave foreigners perplexed, intrigued and vaguely uncomfortable simultaneously.

I will be taking suggestions throughout my time in China concerning my blogging subjects. So I want to know… “What Do You Want to Know about China?” Ask me questions, share opinions, suggest great restaurants, it’s all good!

Topics I have already been requested to cover include street fashion, language (idioms, slang, naughty words), travel tips and study reflections. I will also include pretty photos to make the whole thing that much more exciting for you poor sods.

So, sit back, enjoy the highs and lows and feel free to live vicariously through me.

As my good friend Amanda said recently during her time in China,

“When you feel that you fully understand China , it’s time to leave. Quickly.”

UPDATE: This blog was originally intended to only cover the period of my Chinese language study exchange to Nanjing University beginning in August 2013. However, plans change and I got decidedly more adventurous and decided that living in a University with other foreign exchange students, whilst fun, was not gonna expose me to the China that I wanted to see. Therefore, this blog continues on for its next chapter, from March 2014 I will be blogging about my experiences living independently in Ji’an, Jiangxi Province, doing an internship for a small NGO where I basically get the excuse of ‘work’ to then visit numerous villages and mountains. This is the China that I was waiting for.

Peace Y’all

Hello there! I just came to your blog and I really enjoy it. I like your writing style. Unfortunately most of the time I am behind the Great Firewall and am unable to read it. I will try to read it whenever I get the chance. Have a good time!
